Backplate thread?

Hi all.

Is there an accepted "close enough" approximation to use for cutting the backplate thread on an all-metric machine ?

Long-term a set of translation gears and a banjo are on the cards, but not just yet... :-)

Thanks,

Youra.

Viceroy bits on eBay

This chap has some Viceroy bits - they look to me as though for some of the older, and possibly imperial versions. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/bobs1845/m.html for example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VARIOUS-LATHE-PARTS/352376412483 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LATHE-PART/352376412468 https://www.ebay.c...

280 with separate carriage feed drive.

A couple of months ago I came across a this picture on the website of a machinery dealer - can't unfortunately now remember which. Has anyone seen this sort of feed powering arrangement on a Viceroy before? Well known (in principle) from some other lathes - Hardinge in particular with the motor on t...

D1-3 camlock chuck and drive plate for sale.

Hi all With my 250 came a couple of items that really ought to go with a 280 with a D1-3 camlock spindle fitting: 1- A 125mm (not 5") 3-Jaw Burnerd chuck, to which someone had actually fitted a 1.5x8tpi screw backplate. The backplate can come with the chuck if wanted, but the chuck I guess is mostly...

Re: Half nut adjustment - how is it done?

John, all, Indeed probably not assembled correctly - I've stripped back the offending parts, double checked that the correct ground-to-size-on-factory-assembly washers were in the correct locations, and re-assembled. This time - despite all being as far as I can tell exactly the same, everything fit...

Half nut adjustment - how is it done?

Hi all. I'm pretty well done putting back together my 250 apron after deciding that it needed a good seeing-to - one problem in particular was that the bottom right plastic push-rivet that held the aluminium decal plate on leaked oil and the apron would never stay full - that's now been replaced by ...

Re: Apron Removal from a Synchro 280

And many thanks from me to Andy B for that apron drawing - it looks identical to my 250 apron, and I was wondering exactly where the two washers I had left over had come from..... :?

Re: Sliding feed clutch and jamming gearbox....

So. Emboldened by Pete's comments (thanks!) I can report complete success :D The taper pin came out very easily - it's barely worth marking it up for replacement - on this shaft at least it's way off centre and can really only go in one way. New circlip purchased and fitted, and all back together ea...

Re: Sliding feed clutch and jamming gearbox....

OK - so some progress - what's happened is now clear, although why is perhaps less so... The circlip (see picture) just to the right of the dog-sooth clutch gear has come out of its groove, allowing the gear to move to the right, and thus the mating teeth of the gear directly above it to fall into t...

Sliding feed clutch and jamming gearbox....

Hi all. Quick question / brain picking about the dog clutch on the sliding feed shaft. I've been using my (metric) 250 for a bit now, and it's been behaving well, especially once I got the belt tensions set up properly. After the sliding feed and the dog clutch working fine for a while, it has sudde...

Re: T-Slotted cross-slide

The cross-slide, of course - silly me.... :? Actually, I've found a drawing for the 280 version here: http://www.denfordata.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1986 which from a couple of measurements on mine appears to be the same as that for the 250... Anyone know if that's correct ? I see different part numbe...

Re: T-Slotted cross-slide

Hi all,

Is the drawing for the 250 topslide (slotted or otherwise) available anywhere? I guess it's pretty much the same as the other models.

OK - later edit - it's ML100-503, at least according to the parts list.

Thanks in anticipation,

Youra.

Thanks Richard

I'm in the UK - Stockport - I've sent John Ward an email - let's see what he comes back with.

You're probably right about the tapered gib....!

T-Slotted cross-slide

Hi all. I'm now actually using my 250 after adding a VFD and cleaning the congealed crud out of the change-gear banjo etc... Some more cleaning still to do, but the machine is now usable. I need to take a look at the bearing pre-load after looking at the finish Richard is getting once he sorted that...

Re: Denford Viceroy TDS VSD conversion

Dazz, Really nice control panel on your 3ph conversion - I assume that's a special you made. Curious about one thing - you say you have full torque at low speed - are you using a particular VFD with vector control to do this, or just a 'normal' 3ph convertor? What model have you used? Thanks, Youra.

Upper belt tension adjusters?

Hi guys Ok - so, how do the adjusters for the top belt work? I'm trying to adjust the top belt tension - the adjusters on the intermediate shaft are (I think the older type) brass with a single screwdriver slot to turn them, but they are so stiff that I'm wondering if I've missed a lock screw somewh...

Re: Threading auto knock-off

My manual (downloaded, not one that came with the lathe) simply says something along the lines of:

"Automatic threading knock-off is also available", but nothing else.

Dazz - did I see you had drawings for this feature somewhere?

Re: Threading auto knock-off

Yup - as Dazz says, it's original. Dazz - reading your other thread - did you every get very far with the 'gun trigger' style knock-off? Now I'm almost set up with my new workshop (the electrician finished off last week) I'm looking properly at the machines again, and was thinking in terms of a vers...
