Hi, There was a discussion about this a while ago. Here is a link. https://www.denfordata.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1061 (Have a look at the XL spreadsheet) The answer is no, it can't exactly. But if you follow the instructions in the XL spreadsheet you can cut a thread that will work satisfactorily wi...

Re: My new viceroy lathe
Here are my (helpful I hope) comments on your questions: 1) Quick change toolposts... There are a lot of different kinds. This is the one I have: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/piston-type-quick-change-tool-post-/321451195844?pt=UK_Home_Garden_PowerTools_SM&var=&hash=item4ad7fbfdc4 (Except that I have t...

Re: Denford Vicerory TDS1 PCS in a sorry state _ Rebuild?
Regarding having bought unsuitable change wheels off Ebay.... My advice is - don't worry! I have on several occasions bought things which turned out be unsuitable, all you do is put them back on Ebay with an explanation. On one occasion I got more than I had paid by a good margin including postage c...

Sold !, for a total price of £710.70 (if I got my sums right). and if you want a good laugh, its now on Ebay asking £1600.00 using the same picture as the auction Ad, and with a description mentioning buying a commercial property.(?) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Viceroy-280-vs-Centre-Lathe-3-phaze-/18...

You beat me to it !,
Its clearly a long bed model as you say, also if you look carefully at the picture of the nameplate it has the "L" suffix visible.

Re: Strip/renew bearings on Viceroy lathe!
Two little points for your consideration....
1) if you select between B/G in and out, so there is no drive, you will be able to check the bearings for tightness etc.
B) my Viceroy is much quieter when it has had a little oil added to the Gearbox lubricators on top.

Re: Strip/renew bearings on Viceroy lathe!
I found it relatively easy to move my Viceroy (On a concrete floor anyway), I was able to lift the tailstock end up and put a piece of steel tube about 1.5" OD under the base. I was then able to drag it to a balance point and using other bits of the same tube manoeuvre it around. Great care is neede...

Unusual Viceroy on Ebay
There's an unusual Viceroy on Ebay, it has an auxiliary gearbox to drive the leadscrew.
Haven't seen anything like that before.
Can anyone throw any light on it ?

Re: Power cross feed won't work on my TDS 1/1.
I wouldn't worry about the cross feed, it might take you ages to source parts to get it fixed. It's not essential for the Lathe operation. I rarely use mine. I would be more concerned about the company going bust, if you have paid for it ! You would become an unsecured creditor, you might get nothin...

Re: Viceroy TDS 1/1 saddle clamp.
In the end I made one with the pins which seems to work OK. I bought one of the small cast ones and a bolt from Bede, but in the end I only used the Bolt. I couldn't find anyway of getting the cast clamp into the saddle, I think it must be for a different version. If anyone wants it they can have it...

I see that the price has been dropped to 280 Pounds.
Also one of them has roller leadscrew guards, but no leadscrew.
Must be to stop the little treasures catching their fingers in the long travel gear.

Re the 250 quid lathe, I offered the guy 125 quid for the steadies only, and told him he would get between 250 to 300 pounds for the Lathe with possibly a bit more with the steadies. He got 278 Pounds in the end. I think he lost about 100 pounds in the sale, but hey, he wanted to sell as a job lot, ...

Re: my new lathe an old viceroy
I just thought I would comment because I think you may have a few misconceptions. Firstly you don't need a 2HP motor to drive a viceroy, unless you are going to do very heavy work. 1 HP (746 watts) is fine. Even if the motor is a 2.2Kw motor you can drive it with a 1HP Inverter. It will work fine bu...

Re: my new lathe an old viceroy
Hi, i don't know how to get hold of Mike Molyneux, sorry. Regarding an Inverter, I have a TECO model from Drives direct. Seems to work OK. You must have a motor that can be connected star though. I wouldn't be to hung up on the design of the backgear handle, if you can make one just now, you might b...

Looks pretty good. Similar to my one but looks a lot nicer.
Now that the summers nearly over and the economy might be picking up slightly
I think it will go for about 450.00 Pounds.
