Orac map light
Hello, I am resurrecting an Orac using PlanetCNC control. I am trying to get the original map light up and running. It connects to a transformer and what looks like a relay - labelled 'keyswitch' -with 8 connections on it, it has a small coil, and a spring inside a transparent case. I am not sure ho...

Re: Apron Removal from a Synchro 280
I know this is a while ago but I think I may have the same issue. The cross slide crashed and now the cross feed screw is bent at the gear. Also the saddle only moves a few inches then something in the apron jams, both feed directions. I have the saddle off the apron but can't see how to get the apr...

Thanks - that all works. Steppers aren't that smooth at very low feed rates but I guess that is to be expected.

Re: Starturn 4 Mach3 Motor settings help needed
Thanks very much - I have the SD2 drivers, I believe these can be figured to run in half step mode too, not sure if that would be an advantage in this case. I will give it a go later

Starturn 4 Mach3 Motor settings help needed
Hello Can anyone help me out? I am getting my 1985 era Starturn4 working with Mach3 using the original drivers and motors as per David Murrays excellent posts. Can anyone who has got a similar setup let me know the steps per unit settings in Mach3 for the X and Z axes plus the max motor speeds you h...

Re: Quick change toolpost for a viceroy
Hi - i have a proper Dixon toolpost and 17 holders for my 280vs. I do have a spare 4 way indexing toolpost as well if you are interested but i find the QC one much better. Chronos and RDG do a copy of the Dixon toolposts which should be fine.

Re: easychange collet wanted
Hi Andy - the collets can be had from Chronos for about £10 (Pozilocks) and the drill chuck adaptors from J&L tooling (about £60). I bit the bullet and got an ER32 chuck instead as I already have ER collets and plain shank tooling.
I have been trying to source easychange tooling too

VR Milling question
Hello. I would appreciate any help. I am purchasing an ex-school Micromill (manufactured 2002). It has no software with it. Can you tell me what version of VR Milling is appropriate and how I could get a license for that?
Best Regards Andy

Re: Viceroy 280 VS newbie help needed
Yes - thanks. I am really getting used to the lathe now and am enjoying it. It seems much more rigid than my previous Myford 7 and i am getting excellent finishes and parrting off with ease! Andy

Re: power crossfeed direction confusion
Thanks for replying Andy - much appreciated. I have a knurled wheel on the left hand edge of the apron to swap between power cross-feed (turn anticlockwise) and longitudanal feed (turn clockwise) - nothing else like that though or is that what you are refering to? The apron matches with the user man...

power crossfeed direction confusion
Hello All - I am a bit confused about the direction of my power crossfeed on my 280 VS. If I set the tumbler reverse gear cluster to move the carriage towards the headstock then operating the power crossfeed moves the crossslide out (away from the work piece). I can move the PCF in by changing the t...

Re: Viceroy 280 VS newbie help needed
Thanks Andy - I will look at that. I am currently busy cleaning the lathe up and changing the oil in the various oil-baths. Its fairly dirty (emphasised by the white paint colour). I am a relative beginner too, so will take care with getting tools jammed up.

Re: Viceroy 280 VS newbie help needed
Thanks Andy. I have had a Myford Super 7 for a couple of years so will have to see if the Viceroy is a step-up.
As a newbie on this machine is there anything I should be wary of?
Cheers Andy

Viceroy 280 VS newbie help needed
All - I am new to the forum and need a little bit of help. I have acquired a 280 VS lathe in decent condition. One thing is that the leadscrew has quite a bit of end float. The manual clearly states that this can be adjusted with a locknut - but I cannot see a locknut at the tailstock end of the lea...
