Re: Viceroy screwcutting lathe TDS1/1 PCS Headstock bearings
Hi The most reliable method of identifying the correct bearings is to read the part number off the fitted ones. I was told these bearings are also used on Cessna wheels so readily available. There are no "precision" grades of these bearings. That hasn't stopped me turning to tolerances within 0.0002".

Re: Happy New Lathe Day (Part 2!)
Why limit yourself to inch thread pitches when you can 3D print a metric conversion set while your at it, ... That is a very good idea. Actual metal gears are priced like crown jewels. Somewhere on the site, I posted a spreadsheet to calculate pitches, feeds etc. That could be modified for any cust...

Re: New To Me TDS 1 (LS)
This lathe is missing the grease nipples from either end of headstock. Concerned that bearings might be bone dry but it appears someone has managed to lube them in some way. Not 100% sure but is that smaller port the outlet for the grease nipple IE: are they connected ? I presume the nipple is a dr...

Re: Viceroy TDS 1/1 GBL - what grease & oil to use ?
Hi I fretted about oil selection when I first got my lathe. Basically any oil or grease available today is far superior to what was available last century. I use standard automotive non-EP gear oil in the gearbox, but basically any relatively high viscosity oil will do the job. The same with grease....

Microscope adapter
Hi I purchased a Bausch & Lomb Stereo Zoom 4 microscope from ebay USA. This is for electronics, which use parts small enough to require a microscope to work with. To reduce shipping cost, I found a microscope with a mount but no stand. The plan was to buy a computer monitor stand and make an adapter...

Re: Countershaft drive belt tension.
Hi
Each end of the pulley shaft is machined like a two pronged fork.
These fit around the adjustment screw in the slot.
If one slot is higher than the other, the shaft will jamb.
It is as simple as that.

Re: Countershaft drive belt tension.
Hi If your belt is of the type that is made up of linked segments, then these belts stretch a lot. That is one of their features. I suggest you start by removing the belt and degreasing it and the pulleys. I oil my gears with spray-on chain lube. It goes on runny but the solvent evaporates to leave ...

Re: VBiceroy 1.1 TDS GB Pulley size for vfd conversion
Hi The major reason I replace the step pulley with a single pulley was because I always had problems with the motor pulley working loose. The easiest way to solve that problem was to fit a single pulley. With the back gear, that gives 2 gear ranges. That is enough for high torque, low speed operatio...

Re: Model Engineer Workshop : Cross slide copier
Hi Attached are some photos that show a cross slide copier attachment. This is designed to copy the profile of a template onto the end of a bar. This is something that cannot be done with the factory copy attachment. I have used parts of the factory copier to make the cross slide version, but nothin...

Re: Denford Viceroy TDS VSD conversion
Hi Five years after a post that said I had been working on my next VFD conversion, a Brazilian made Nardini lathe, here is the result. It isn't a Viceroy lathe but I used the Viceroy to make parts for the conversion. This included pulleys for the poly-vee belt conversion. I replaced the entire elect...

Hi
The extra cross slide is just a copy of the factory one but with Tee slots. It is a lot like a Myford version but scaled up. Nothing special.
I have never had it mounted on the lathe. Never needed to use it.

Denford Viceroy knock-off trigger concept
Hi The carriage on the Denford Viceroy features a knock-off mechanism that can be used when threading up to a shoulder. When the bar is pushed by the stop, it knocks off the half nuts. The problem with this mechanism is that the exact knock-off point is not well defined. The knock-off is more like a...

Hi
The tap idea sounds like a good solution.
I think of the thread as a rotary Vee. It has a major influence on chuck runout.
