Re: Denford TRIAC programming from cad drawing

My TRIAC PC dated 1994 works very well - though occasionally throws a wobbly, but I am told it is probably due to noise on the RS232 cable I am using. However my suspicion is that it may be something else as it is always the same problem - the spindle stops. So I need to monitor the cutting to stop ...

Re: Axis limit on Z axis - TRIAC PC 1993/1994

I took the motor cover and column covers off and had a good look. There is a micro switch near the top which causes the emergency stop when I press it, so I cleaned it as far as I could. That may have helped. I could not see a silver bolt. The Z axis ball screw and belt drive obscure viewing into th...

Re: Axis limit on Z axis - TRIAC PC 1993/1994

The software has not been upgraded - that's why I found it so strange. The machine was merrily working away until I needed to change the tool and jogged the Z axis up in order to do so. Then the error message. Thank you for replying so quickly I will have a look at the dog - I am not certain what th...

Axis limit on Z axis - TRIAC PC 1993/1994

Hi, My Triac PC 1993/1994 vintage has been working fine but now has a strange fault and is not working to its usual high standard. The Z axis was going up and triggered the emergency stop signal. I overrode this with the limit stop switch on the front panel. But as soon as I let that go the emergenc...

Shirt collar stiffeners

A simple thing to make - but the results were very pleasing! I made a few to give to my son for one of his Christmas presents. The measurements were taken from a plastic shirt stiffener and drawn using CAD. The brass sheet used is 1.2mm thick, but a thick plastic sheet could also be used. Brass when...

Re: Balluff Proximity switch sale - Free P&P

I don't know whether my 1995 TRIAC PC has them...
Do these baluffs break down ?
If my TRIAC's baluff's break, are there alternatives?

What on earth are these proximity switches and how do they work?

PS: The baluff web site cannot find these parts.

Numeric USB keypad pendant

Not sure whether this might help someone so apologies if you already know this - My PC keyboard is next to my screen near my TRIAC, when I first had the TRIAC PC I used the full keyboard to jog the x,y,z axes. Very awkward to do  . Then decided to buy a small silicone numeric keypad - the type...

Re: Cannot change machine in QuickCam 2D

 Thanks for your input - it forced me to re-examine everything very carefully, before submitting code and photos. I was actually doing some 'silly' things - after a couple of weeks of not using the machine I had forgotten some of the basics . I think I will have to do a check list to re...

Cannot change machine in QuickCam 2D

Hi, For a while now I have been trying to make a hole in a 50mm thick piece of Aluminium (dimensions are x=132.32, Y=62.82). The hole will eventually go right through and is 31.75mm (1.25") in diameter. Throughout I am working in Metric. - The billet size is set in QuickCam 2 and I draw a circle in ...

Re: Broken spindle motor or drive or fuse? Advice please

The old board works fine! Should've listened to you guys in the first place  !!! After I found where the faulty fuse was located it seemed to fix the problem. In addition the new card appears to be faulty - which also compounded my problem. The new SPRINT card and the old one both worked on th...

Re: Broken spindle motor or drive or fuse? Advice please

Have now replaced the board in the controller box - and after searching for and replacing fuse F1 which had indeed blown. The motor now runs but pulsed rather than continuous and I hear a clicking sound like one of the relays (or something else) is clicking in and out. Puzzled...and :?

Re: Broken spindle motor or drive or fuse? Advice please

The Sprint board is removed from the box and I have wired it to mains (pins 12,13), a 10K pot (pins 1,2,3), a wire to start the board (pins 4,5). The tachometer is removed and the board switch set to select the armature voltage sensing rather than the tachometer (S4 on). The motor runs - but much sl...

Re: Broken spindle motor or drive or fuse? Advice please

Thank you, excellent. That reassures me that I did not damage the motor after all. I will now concentrate my efforts around the Thyristors /SCRs and see whether they are damaged.
Or buy a new board...

Re: Broken spindle motor or drive or fuse? Advice please

Thanks for that confirmation.
Should the thermal overload sensor be closed circuit when normal and open when overheated?
If that is so - would I have blown the thyristors or diodes on the board?

Many thanks for your help - much appreciated.:)

Re: Broken spindle motor or drive or fuse? Advice please

Thanks for these drawings. The mains I am trying to measure is on the SPRINT 1200 board between pins 12 and 13, labelled N and L on the circuit diagram from the Sprint 1200 Manual. There are 6 connections on the motor: The top 2, T1 and T2 are the Tachometer - they go to a small set of brushes on a ...

Re: Broken spindle motor or drive or fuse? Advice please

Removed motor and stripped it - it is fine. Looked at what are supposed to be field coils - a couple of wires going to one of the brushes. The motor is a permanent magnet motor and does not need a field coil - so what does the field coil connection which feeds back to the Sprint card actually do? Ca...

Re: Broken spindle motor or drive or fuse? Advice please

Has anyone experience of changing the Thyristors? is it a big job?
And does anyone know what type they are?
Or should I get a new card?

MANY THANKS

Re: Broken spindle motor or drive or fuse? Advice please

Yes - as you suspected, when I remove the live mains wire from the connector and measure the voltage it is 230V. Does that mean the board is blown? I also measured the motor as follows: Armature A1-A2 0 ohms Field K1-K2 0 ohms Tacho T1-T22 40 ohms Accuracy of the meter at these low levels is suspect...
