Re: TDS 1/1 G.B.L Lathe cross slide feedscrew replacement.
I can't help you with the drawing Les but I can say I was surprised to see that the screws on my TDS were finished with a die. I'd never seen die-cut lathe leadscrews before. How much too long is the plain section on your screw? If it fouls the nut but only by a turn or two then it might be good eno...

Re: Viceroy TDS6 Drive Belt
I think the braking is being over-thought here. If it's so important why fit a large motor which has more momentum and needs more energy to stop it? I would do what Dazz says and just fit it up and use the VFD's normal braking. Don't kill the power with the e-stop, use it to remove the run command a...

Re: Denford Viceroy TDS 1/1 GBL Chuck Wanted
You can use any chuck that will fit a backplate. What you need is a back plate. The nose thread is indeed 1.5" 8TPI BSF, which is a 55 degree thread. You could buy a backplate casting and have someone machine the register and cut a thread in it for you. Once you have the backplate done just buy your...

Re: Warped cross-slide on TDS1
Today I had to make a custom hand scraper to scrape the cross-slide ways. Came out pretty well and I have the ways nearly done.

Re: Warped cross-slide on TDS1
John, of the original gears I have only 16,56 and 60.
This leaves me needing - 18,24,32,36,40,44,46,48,52,54,72 and 80. I do have a 100/127 pair but I've yet to work out what compliments them for metric pitches. I suspect the stock set should be able to cover most of them.

Re: Warped cross-slide on TDS1
The top of the cross slide was no better. First problem I had was that it was printing outside the area that the compound base sits on and I didn't want to scrape all that down so I set it up in my mill and fly-cut those bits a couple of thou lower. cslide5.jpg cslide6.jpg cslide7.jpg Then the main ...

Re: Warped cross-slide on TDS1
I'm afraid I don't there's no tag to tell me the age. I could measure it if you like.
Incidentally, if you have redundant change gears from your conversion, I would be interested in those. I am short quite a few.

Warped cross-slide on TDS1
I'm working my way through this TDS1 and I noticed that the cross-slide seemed to rock a bit so I set it on my surface plate to check it out. Sure enough it's got a 2 thou belly in the underside, and added to that the compound slide rocks on it's base so I guess the thin casting has twisted a bit ov...

Mind you I was expecting more. Try putting a wanted ad on somewhere like Homeworkshop or Madmodder and see if someone can do better.

Re: Apron Removal from a Synchro 280
I'd have a damn good go at making one myself first. Grind a bit from HSS or gauge plate and fly-cut the teeth.
